Interim Pastor and Acting Senior Pastor

Rob will be filling in the roles of Intentional Interim Pastor and Acting Senior Pastor in 2024.

Rob has filled the role of interim pastor several times in churches in Victoria. He brings with him over 30 years of pastoral experience and over 20 years of experience as a senior pastor.

He was a part-time lecturer at Malyon College (back when it was Brisbane Theological College of QLD) and both he and his wife Jenny served as missionaries in Fiji.

Rob's journey to SDBC has come full circle - some might recall that he was a student pastor at SDBC back in the 80s!

Associate Pastor

Alvin and his wife Cherry are originally from Hong Kong, and have lived in Brisbane since 2004. After arriving in Australia, he started studying at the Bible College of Queensland, initially as a part-time student and then studying full time for pastoral ministry.

Alvin likes playing chess and bridge. He enjoys studying the Bible and listening to music. Alvin's aspiration is to enrich the lives of people, so that they can live a meaningful, abundant and joyful life.

Associate Pastor (Youth, Children & Families)

Jennifer serves the Youth, Children, Family and Worship ministries here at SDBC.

Though born in New Zealand, she is mostly from the Northern Territory, and there she served her first ten years in ministry with children. Jenn is passionate about empowering families as they disciple the next generation and journeying alongside young believers as they discover our incredible God and His amazing love.

Jennifer recently celebrated ten years of marriage with Joshua, and both are loving their current adventure of young family life with two kids. Outside church, the Howard fam can be found enjoying reading, games (of any board, video or sport variety), music or fishing.

Born in China, Robert has called Australia home for many years. With over 13 years of pastoral ministry experience, he has had the joy of walking alongside people across diverse cultures and generations—including Mandarin and Cantonese-speaking communities as well as Australian-born Chinese (ABCs).

Robert has a heart for people and deep conversations. While he is passionate about preaching and teaching the Bible, he equally treasures listening to individual stories and walking alongside people through life’s ups and downs. His central passion is helping others take their next step with Jesus —whether discovering faith for the first time, growing deeper in God’s Word, or finding their place in God’s family and mission.

Outside of ministry, Robert loves taking walks with his wife, reading, and listening to music. A naturally curious learner, he rarely turns down a good cup of coffee or a great conversation! Robert is thrilled to join the SDBC family and looks forward to connecting with everyone.

Originally from Alaska, USA, Joseph moved to Australia in 2006 to attend Bible College and has called Australia home ever since. Joseph married his wife, Meyling, in 2011 and they have three children. Having been a part of SDBC for several years, Joseph is excited to now serve the church as an Associate Pastor.

Joseph is passionate about helping people grow in their relationship with Jesus through biblical teaching, discipleship, and genuine community. He has many years of experience serving in youth and young adult ministry, developing leaders, and teaching the Bible in both vocational and higher education settings.

Joseph is currently completing a PhD in Biblical Studies, exploring kingly power in the Saul’s rejection as king. Outside of church and study, he enjoys spending time with his family, reading, and pretty much anything to do with exploring the goodness of God’s creation.
