David
Hicks, our Associate Pastor, and his wife Sylvia have three children, Josh,
Luke and Steph. Their family is from Queensland but have worked as missionaries
in the Sudan and Ethiopia. They joined SDBC in March 2011.
All three
children are currently studying at university. Sylvia trained as a
microbiologist and worked overseas teaching English in Bible Schools as well as
Mathematics and Science in an international mission school. She currently works
as Practice Manager for a specialist medical practice. David did his
theological training at the Baptist Theological College of Queensland (now
Malyon College) here in Brisbane. He
taught in Theological Colleges in both Khartoum and Addis Ababa and worked as
Director of Bingham Academy, the school where Sylvia taught.
David
enjoys cooking, playing squash, riding his bike, reading and skiing. Though
relatively deaf he enjoys listening to music with his favourite artists
including Keith Green, Third Day, Sons of Korah, Lou Fellingham, Creedance
Clearwater Revival and 10,000 Maniacs.
His
desire is that God’s people be encouraged and equipped to live passionately and
intentionally as followers of Jesus that this broken world might see the love
of God in Christ and turn away from the coming judgment.
