Playgroup Purpose

We seek to provide a safe and stimulating environment for under school age children, to enhance their development under the guidance of their parents.
We seek to promote Christian values and beliefs in appropriate and relevant ways to young children by:

  • Saying grace before morning tea.
  • Including Sunday school songs in singing time
  • Including Bible stories in story time
  • Encouraging the development of Christian attitudes in the child's social interaction
  • We seek to provide a supportive and friendly place for parents, introducing them to other facilities available for the whole family which are provided by the SDBC.

We currently have two Playgroup programs, each catering for English and Korean families. Monday is specifically for Korean speaking familes, while Tuesday, Thursday and Friday are for English speaking families. All Playgroup sessions start 9:15am and finish 11:15am.

There is no Playgroup on school or public holidays. Please feel free to contact the church office for more details on Playgroup.

What happens at Playgroup?

Playgroup sessions are 2 hours long. They are spontaneous and flexible but follow a program which includes:

  • Free play time
  • Morning Tea
  • Craft Time
  • Pack away Toys Time
  • Singing and a Story

Playgroup is a low-cost activity and activities are kept simple.
We have a comprehensive range of good quality toys, early childhood equipment and craft materials.

All parents work as a team and participate in the smooth running of our playgroups.

  • Parents are rostered to take turns providing morning tea for the adults, a craft idea for the children and a story.
  • Parent-direction is required during activities that are led by an adult, eg. grace, singing, story times, and clean-up time.
  • Parents are expected to teach their children the proper use and care of toys and equipment.
  • Play-clothes will give your child more freedom of play as well as be more relaxing for you.
  • Allow your child the freedom to choose their activities when appropriate.
  • Some children will take several weeks before they feel comfortable enough to leave their parents and play/explore on their own.

Playgroup fees

Fees are:

Children under 12 months - no charge
Children 12 to 18 months - $1.00
Children over 18 months - $1.50
Maximum charge per family - $2.00

Your first 2 weeks are at no charge, so you can try us out and see if you would like to continue to attend.

Please check your name off in the attendance book each week and enter the amount paid under the date you are paying. Do not enter any figures under previous or future weeks as each column is totalled on that day.

A maximum of one other child besides the immediate family may come to visit with you and your children at playgroup on any given week.

Because the resources and space are limited, it is necessary to limit the number of families attending on each day. The maximum number is 15 families. This enables each group to function with enough equipment to go around, enough space without being cramped, and enables everyone to get to know each other.

If you can no longer attend playgroup for any reason, please let us know so that another family can join in.

What happens to Playgroup fees?

The fees each family pays go towards:

  • consumables such as coffee, tea, sugar, glue, paint, etc, used by the playgroup.
  • purchasing of new toys and equipment
  • maintaining existing playgroup resources.
  • a small Christmas and birthday gift for each child.

Thankyou for taking the time to come and view our little corner of the World Wide Web =)
