What is Boys Brigade?

The Boys Brigade is a non-denominational and international Christian uniformed organisation for boys aged from 5 to 18 years.  This means that it is active in many countries in the world and people from lots of different churches participate.  Boys Brigade was started in 1883 in Glasgow, Scotland by a man named William Alexander Smith.  Boys Brigade started with only 30 boys, but now has thousands in over 60 countries.

Boys Brigade is not merely another boys club, it is a Christian organisation that is a part of the Church.  Every Company is a part of a Christian church.  There are Anglican, Baptist, Lutheran, Presbyterian and many more different types of companies but they are all a part of a local church.

What does it cost to come to Boys Brigade?

Try us out for 6 weeks to see whether Boys Brigade is for you!  If you choose to join it is $20 per term plus the cost of your uniform (some are available second hand). On the last Monday of the month we have a Boys Brigade café.    You bring $1 to go towards food to share.

Why a uniform?

Our uniform provides a smart appearance, a sense of responsibility and belonging; helps create discipline and poise; promotes pride in the organisation and brings Boys Brigade to the attention of the general public.

Who are the leaders?

Christian men of all ages, who are a part of the church.  They participate in Boys Brigade because they desire to see young men grow up enjoying interesting and relevant activities.
