Worship Service Essentials - Worship Service Team

"Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name." Psalm 100:4

These days, "worship" is sometimes thought of as a style of music. Worship is far more than that!! When we come together, every part of our church service is an act of worship. In our services there are many facets.prayingScripture readingsingingmusiccommunionsilence and being reflectivelistening to a speaker or sermonbaptismgreeting each othermorning tea or supper

We believe that worship is even more than meeting together for a worship service. Worship is a way of life, of enjoying God, and giving ourselves to him each day to be used for his purposes. When you use your life for God's glory, everything you do can become an act of worship."So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."1 Cor 10:31 "Give yourselves to God . . . Surrender your whole being to him to be used for righteous purposes." Rom 6:13

When we come together, our worship is for God's benefit. When we worship God, our goal is to bring pleasure to Him (not ourselves). If you leave a service thinking, "I didn't get much out of that," then you've got the wrong idea. We worship not for our own sake - but to honour our Creator - and we do not only worship at church - our lives are an offering of worship every day.

It has been said that the heart of worship is surrender. In our society we prefer to think of achieving and winning than surrender and obeying. But surrendering to God is what he wants and it is our natural response to his love and mercy. We give ourselves to God in worship not primarily out of fear or duty, but in love because "he first loved us".

We all reflect God's glory - in different ways. God made us all different and we each praise him in our unique and beautiful ways. He didn't make us as robots to serve him and he doesn't ask us to repress our personalities and conform to one style of worship. He made us with different personalities because he likes us that way and knows that we all have something special to offer.

Some people like to dance and clap, others like to close their eyes and reflect on God's Honour. You are welcome to join in our worship in whatever way you feel comfortable as long as it is "done in a fitting and orderly way" (1 Cor 14:40)

So, in our worship services you will see many people praising God in all different ways. As long as it is orderly and done with a desire to honour God, we know that He is pleased.

We encourage everyone who is a part of our church or who is interested in finding more about our church or about God, to be involved in one of our groups. D-Teams (short for Discipleship Teams) are our small groups for young people. They are for students who want to take their relationship with God to the next level and get serious about living as a passionate follower of Jesus.

D-Teams usually meet weekly and run for about 1.5hrs. Each group will decide exactly how their group will operate, but a typical group would include:bible studyprayeraccountabilityplenty of food & fun!

Groups will also do activities together away from their normal meeting time - see a movie, have a sleep-over, go on a camping trip, serve together.

Our Senior Pastor, Daryl Evans and his wife Rhonda have 2 adult children, Shayne (Married to Gretel) and Kate.

Originally from country NSW, both Daryl and Rhonda are trained primary School teachers. Rhonda continues to teach at Westside Christian College. Daryl concluded teaching in 1982 and was trained at Morling college in Sydney for the Baptist Ministry.

Daryl loves reading and golf.

He has thought about getting a ski-boat and calling it Pastoral Care. So he may be out of the office on a "course" or on "Pastoral Care". Both Daryl and Rhonda enjoy walking and escaping at the movies (cinema and DVD). Daryl is probably adicted to good coffee.

Whether walking, golfing or drinking coffee at a cofee shop, he's always up for a chat about knowing God, the Bible, and the Church.

Sharing needs... - Practical Sharing

Do you often wonder; "what was the early church community like?" We certainly know they had their difficulties, and we're fortunate to see a glimpse of how they responded. (Acts 2:44-47) All the believers were together and had everything in common. {45} Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. {46} Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, {47} praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

But these days, in our busy separated lives, how do we practically share with each other. By the time I hear of someones need, they have often struggled through alone.

It is our hope that through the wonders of modern technology (arguably the very thing that isolates us), and the love we share for each other, we can better "share our needs" and meet each other at that point of need.

If you have that old something sitting in the garage or back cupboard, and you have a sneaking feeling that someone could use it more effectively than you, then let us know.

Likewise, if you recognise someone in need, or have a need for something yourself, let us know.

Whether its an extra blanket for winter, a cot for the new baby, a bike to get to work, or a spare bed for a vistor, there is normally someone with a spare (Check out Luke 3:11).

Send e-mails / letters to parents of members of your group to keep
        them informed.

Why
have we moved to an online church system.?

  For the above capability and,
Because the data is stored in a secure location off-site and can only be
    accessed through passwords.
Because it allows people to be involved in ministry coordination from home
and out of church office hours.
Because the wider community wants to know about our church and the
internet is a safe way for them to learn about us.
Because protecting the safety of children that attend church events is
essential to us, and this tool allows us to keep track of who can and can't
communicate on-line with children, or work with children.

Kids Club Essentials - Kids Club Leaders

Who is Kids' Club for?
We welcome kids who are primary school age. We find preschool and prep children do not cope well with the program.

Do I need to be a part of the church to enrol my kids?
No - all children from grades 1 to 7 are welcome!

When is Kids' Club?
Kids' Club is usually on the first week of the June/July state school holidays. The program runs from 9 am till 12 noon each day from Monday to Friday.

Where is Kid's Club held?
In the facilities of the Sunnybank District Baptist Church.

What does it cost to send my kids?
It is $15 for one child, $30 for two or more children. (Subject to change).

When can we enrol?
Enrolments for Kids' Club open after the May long weekend. Enrolments usually close 2 weeks before the program starts, although we are often full 3 weeks before. A waiting list is held in case of cancellations.

Do we need to pack food for the kids?
No. The children are provided with morning tea.

Every year, the Sunnybank District Baptist Church runs a Kids' Club for families in our local community. We have about 250 children attending each year, and are often booked out 3 weeks before the event.

The Gospel Light Material we use has a different theme each year such as:

2001 - "Sonzone Discovery Centre"
Based on GP4U (God's Plan For You).

2002 - "SonCreek Junction"
Based on the book of Acts and becoming a part of God's family.

2003 - "SonCanyon River Adventure"
Based on wise sayings from Proverbs in the Bible.

2004 - "SonHarvest County Fair"
Based on the fruits of the Spirit.

Having fun, providing a safe place for kids to play, building bridges between S.D.B.C. and the local community, and teaching spiritual truths are the main emphases of Kids' Club.

The crafts are specifically designed to suit different age groups and the kids work on them each day so they are completed by the end of the week

The basic format of each day is as follows:-
9.00 - 9.40am Morning Program: This includes singing, a Bible story and a memory verse.
9.40 - 11.00am Rotational activities: Including craft, games, gym activities and morning tea.
11.00 - 11.45am ‘Trekka Time' : This is where the children divide into year levels to reinforce the memory verse, Bible story and complete their own activity book.
11.45 - 12.00pm Singing and Drama
12.00 pm Home time

Dress your kids in clothes that are suitable for doing gym and craft activities in. Also, we prefer shoes that are easy to get on or off, no sharp jewelry or hair slides hich can damage inflated gym equipment). When you drop your kids off, you are welcome to stay and watch the first part of the morning program which is held in the main block from 9 - 9.40 am and also to watch the singing and Drama from 11.30 am until 12 noon when you come to collect your children.

On the first day, you will need to bring the registration card and enrolment fees for your children to the registration desk (from 8.30 am onwards). Please be sure to include any important medical details or food allergies on your registration card.

Here at S.D.B.C. we take the responsibility of looking after your kids very seriously. All leaders are volunteers and undergo training to inform them of their responsibilities with regard to safety, child protection and the necessity to be good role models and also to prepare them for their leadership role. If you have any other concerns or questions then please do not hesitate to contact one of our leaders for more information.

Becoming a member - Becoming a member

What is the process of becoming a member here at Sunnybank District Baptist Church?

1. Attendance at a membership class where applicants will receive a copy of our Church Constitution, our Doctrinal Beliefs, and discover the Responsibilities of membership at S.D.B.C..

2. Fill in an application form.

3. The names of applicants will be printed in the church bulletin on two consecutive weeks.

4. An interview is conducted by two people who are part of the church here already.

5. Approval is then given by the Pastoral Team.

6. New members are received into membership by a written letter (informing them of their acceptance) and also publicly during a Sunday service (this is optional). "Jesus said, ‘I will build my church' . . ." Matthew 16:18b

When Jesus said this, he was not talking about a church building or a denomination. In the Bible, the church is referred to in two different ways:When Jesus said this, he was not talking about a church building or a denomination. In the Bible, the church is referred to in two different ways:

⌙ As the body of Christ composed of all believers around the world, and
⌙ As a local body of believers.

Thus, the Christian church is both universal and local. The church is universal in that it is made up of all people who have believed, repented, confessed and been baptised into Christ, in all places throughout time. The church is local in that some of these same people form into local congregations like the church in Corinth, or the church at Thessalonica, or the church at Sunnybank, or the church at any place.

Membership in the universal church is automatic upon our becoming obedient followers of Christ. Membership in the local church is based upon our individual choice to join whichever local fellowship we want to commit ourselves to. There are responsibilities that come with church membership. It is the members responsibility to:

⌙ Support the testimony of the church: by attending faithfully, living a godly life, by giving regularly, and by giving a credible verbal witness.

⌙ Connect with others within the church: by attending home groups or small groups within our church community, sharing fellowship over morning tea/supper, attending members meetings, praying for others and loving one another.

⌙ Protect the unity of the church: by growing spiritually on a personal level, communicating well with others, not gossiping, and by being loyal to the people and the church here at S.D.B.C..

⌙ Share the responsibilities of the church: by praying for its growth, inviting the unchurched, by welcoming newcomers, and learning your testimony.

⌙ Serve in the church: by discovering your gifts and talents, using them in a ministry area, being trained and equipped, and to develop a servant's heart.

What are some biblical reasons for joining a church?

⌙ You prove that you are not ashamed to identify with Christ or His people.

⌙ You stop being an independent Christian - you are accountable to the others in your local church.

⌙ You openly demonstrate the reality of the body of Christ.

⌙ You encourage others to be committed to the local body of Christ.
⌙ You participate in a more balanced ministry and demonstrate your commitment to the proper working of each part.

Church membership goes beyond merely attending, worshipping together, or socialising doesn't it?

Becoming a member of the local church here is a process. This brochure is only a very quick summary of why we at S.D.B.C. believe church membership is important. If you have further questions or would like a more in-depth look at biblical references or materials about membership then please make enquiries at the church office.

• consumables such as coffee, tea, sugar, glue, paint, etc, used by the playgroup.
• purchasing of new toys and equipment
• maintaining existing playgroup resources.
• a small Christmas and birthday gift for each child.

Fees are:

Children under 12 months - no charge
Children 12 to 18 months - $1.00
Children over 18 months - $1.50
Maximum charge per family - $2.00

Your first 2 weeks are at no charge, so you can try us out and see if you would like to continue to attend.

Please check your name off in the attendance book each week and enter the amount paid under the date you are paying. Do not enter any figures under previous or future weeks as each column is totalled on that day.

A maximum of one other child besides the immediate family may come to visit with you and your children at playgroup on any given week.

Because the resources and space are limited, it is necessary to limit the number of families attending on each day. The maximum number is 15 families. This enables each group to function with enough equipment to go around, enough space without being cramped, and enables everyone to get to know each other.

If you can no longer attend playgroup for any reason, please let us know so that another family can join in.

Playgroup sessions are 2 hours long. They are spontaneous and flexible but follow a program which includes:
• Free play time
• Morning Tea
• Craft Time
• Pack away Toys Time
• Singing and a Story

Playgroup is a low-cost activity and activities are kept simple.
We have a comprehensive range of good quality toys, early childhood equipment and craft materials.

All parents work as a team and participate in the smooth running of our playgroups.
• Parents are rostered to take turns providing morning tea for the adults, a craft idea for the children and a story.
• Parent-direction is required during activities that are led by an adult, eg. grace, singing, story times, and clean-up time.
• Parents are expected to teach their children the proper use and care of toys and equipment.

• Play-clothes will give your child more freedom of play as well as be more relaxing for you.
• Allow your child the freedom to choose their activities when appropriate.
• Some children will take several weeks before they feel comfortable enough to leave their parents and play/explore on their own.

Girls' Brigade has been active in Australia since 1927! Girls' Brigade celebrated it's 100th Anniversary in Scotland in 2000!

The Girls' Brigade is part of an international Christian youth organisation which supports the family, serves in the community and meets the need of girls just like you by operating through local churches.

The well planned programme covers a wide range of activities which will help you grow in the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of life. Starting with a simple scheme, the programme develops into a wider sphere of work, leading on to the full range of subjects and projects including the Duke of Edinburgh and Queens Award (the highest award in the Girls' Brigade). These present an exciting challenge for older teenagers. You will also be encouraged to take part in Leadership Training within the Brigade. We follow an achievement system and earn badges. The weekly program can include craft, devotions, games, visiting speakers, excursions, videos and much more. On the last night of each term we have a birthday party for everyone who has had a birthday that term. Our Chaplain visits once a month to take devotions.

Girls Brigade caters for Girls from Grade 1 to the age of 20 years and you are divided into groups according to your grade at school. Cadets (grades 1-3), Juniors (grades 4-6), Seniors (grades 7 & 8), and Pioneers (grade 9 to 20 years old).

The Essentials we believe - What We Believe

1. ABOUT GOD.

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

          Genesis 1: 26,27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Cor.13:14

2. ABOUT JESUS CHRIST

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on the cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

Matthew 1;22,23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Hebrews 4: 14,15; I Cor. 15:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; I Timothy 6:14,15; Titus 2:13

3. ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians we seek to live under His control daily.

2 Cor. 3:17; John 16: 7-13; 14:16,17; Acts 1: 8; I Cor. 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1: 13; Galatians 5: 25; Ephesians 5: 18.

4. ABOUT THE BIBLE:

The Bible is God's Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error.

2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1: 20,21; 2Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105,160; 12:6; Proverbs 30:5

5. ABOUT HUMAN BEINGS

People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God's creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin". This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life.

Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59;1,2

6. ABOUT SALVATION

Salvation is God's free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin's penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus inn faith, we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.

Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8,9; John 14:6, 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1

7. ABOUT ETERNAL SECURITY

Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. If you have been genuinely saved you cannot "lose" it. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives us this security.

John 10:29; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25,10:10,14; I Peter 1:3-5

8. ABOUT ETERNITY

People are created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with God is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.

John 3:16; I John 2:25; I John 5:11-13; Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:15; Matthew 18:8; Matthew 25:41,46
